Lafayette’s boys soccer team split its weekend slat, falling at Tishomingo County 5-3 on Friday before earning a 5-0 shutout at Independence on Saturday.
During Friday’s game, Lafayette (2-1 overall) trailed 3-1 at the half but rallied to tie the game with 10 minutes remaining. Tishomingo County proved to be too much in the end and was able to deposit two late goals for the win.
Austin Fikes scored two goals on five shots for Lafayette, while Brian Leyva scored on a header off of a corner kick to conclude Lafayette’s scoring on Friday.
Keeper Jordan Willms recorded eight saves in the loss.
Saturday, Michael Hudgins scored his second hat trick of the season, depositing three goals on six shots while Fikes and Garret Reed also scored for the ‘Dores.
Jason Reveles recorded an assist in each game.
“We moved the ball around and did some things we have been working on in practice. In the second half we played all of our young guys,” LHS coach Gene Anderson said of the win. “They did really well and gained some confidence.”
Lafayette returns to the pitch Nov. 27 for its home opener against Horn Lake at 5 p.m. (November 19, 2012, Page 3B)
