BLOG: Led by superb shooting nights by Derrick Millinghaus and Marshall Henderson, the Ole Miss men’s hoops team cruised to a 92-52 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock Friday evening at the C.M “Tad” Smith Coliseum.
The Rebs (3-0 overall) fell behind 8-2 early, but it didn’t take the home squad long to regroup and surge ahead. The Rebels jumped ahead 15-14 thanks to a Henderson 3 with just over 13 minutes remaining in the first half and never trailed the remainder of the game.
In addition to 19 points from Millinghaus and 17 from Henderson, Nick Williams scored 12, Ladarius White scored 11, Murphy Holloway scored 11 and Reginald Buckner earned his first double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
“He’s outstanding. It’s like watching Ray Allen. He’s a shooter,” Buckner said of Henderson’s shooting ability. “When a shot goes up I sometimes start backing up because I know it’s going in.”
Millinghaus made the most of a season-high 25 minutes. After shooting just 1-for-13 in his first two collegiate games, the freshman from Schnectady, N.Y., was 5-for-11 from the field and 9-for-11 from the free throw line.
“I have to take advantage of these games and show everybody what I can do,” he said. “It felt good. I knew I was capable of doing this, but I really think I can play better than I played today. I think I played alright, but I’m much more capable of playing a better game than this.”
Ole Miss is back in action Tuesday against McNeese State at 7 p.m. at the C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum.
