Former ‘Dore wins national award

Former Lafayette High standout, kicker Tyler Jackson, was honored Wednesday by being named NJCAA National Special Teams Player of the Week.

Jackson, a freshman at Itawamba Community College, kicked the game-winning field goal to beat then No. 3 EMCC in the Indians’ final regular season game.

Jackson was also named MACJC’s Special Teams Player of the Week on Tuesday. Jackson’s kick covered 43 yards and it came with 22 seconds left in the game.

The Indians finished the season 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the MACJC North Division. (November 1, 2012, Page 10)
