Chargers roll past Olive Branch

The Oxford Middle School boys basketball teams posted two road wins over Olive Branch on Monday evening.

The seventh-grade Chargers overcame an 8-7 deficit at the half to post a 26-12 win, while the eighth-grade Chargers won 37-27. Drew Bianco led the seventh-grade Chargers with 12 points, all coming in the second half, and six steals. Hogan Linzy had six points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Hiram Wadlington was awarded the hustle and leadership awards from coach Marlon Bell.

Jarkel Joiner’s 17-point effort led the eighth-grade Chargers. Kevin Gipson added nine points, while Kenard Harris hustled, rebounded and played good defense.

Oxford’s seventh- and eighth-grade Lady Chargers weren’t as fortunate in their two games with Olive Branch. The younger Lady Chargers lost 24-13. Jordan Freeze led the way with eight points. Cymiah McGee and Grace Ann Joyce each scored two points. The eighth-grade Lady Chargers fell 27-21 and were led by Monya Baskins’ eight points. Tierra King and Ann Marie Blackmon finished with four and three points respectively. All four teams return to action Thursday at Calhoun City beginning with the seventh-grade girls’ game at 5 p.m. (November 13, 2012, Page 7)
