LHS thinks, runs outside the box in win

LEWISBURG — Lafayette’s overall winning streak may have ended a few weeks ago, but the Commodores still have a streak going in Region 2-4A play.

Thanks to an all-around performance from quarterback Brandon Mack and some timely stops on defense, the Commodores defeated the Patriots 28-13 to improve their winning streak in region games to 16. Facing a team that could end up being Lafayette’s toughest test in region play in the opener, Mack was able to lead the Commodores on offense by passing for two touchdowns and rushing for one to ice the game late in the fourth quarter.

Mack, who had a big individual night passing Sept. 21 against Pontotoc, finished the game 7-for-9 for 115 yards through the air and added 126 yards on the ground, with 63 coming in each quarter on 19 total carries.

LHS coach Eric Robertson said he noticed Mack starting to get into a better rhythm against the Warriors and it carried over to the first region game. (October 1, 2012, Page 4B)
