One play is all that separated Lafayette from Oxford in junior varsity action Tuesday night at Bobby Holcomb Field. The Commodores defeated Oxford 14-13 in the end by making one more big play than the Chargers at crunch time.
The Chargers, who recently called their ninth-grade team up to their junior varsity squad, took a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter when Lafayette quarterback Dylan Busby was intercepted by Tias Hilliard, who returned the interception 36 yards for a score. Malek Daghestani added the extra point for the Chargers.
Lafayette wasn’t behind long as Eric Lewis intercepted Jack Abraham on Oxford’s next offensive possession and returned it 29 yards for the score. Lewis then gave Lafayette its first lead (8-7) of the game by running for the 2-point conversion. (October 3, 2012, Page 6)
