D shines again for undefeated OHS

HERNANDO — It’s hard not to believe that members of the Hernando Tigers offense weren’t a little sore Saturday morning after tangling with Oxford’s defensive unit.

Hernando’s goal of shortening the game with its Wing T offense only accomplished fewer shots on ball carriers in the seventh-ranked Chargers’ 31-0 win Friday night at Tiger Stadium.

Oxford (8-0 overall, 4-0 in Region 1-5A) bullied its way to another impressive win thanks to another great defensive effort. The Chargers forced five turnovers and held the Tigers to just 147 total yards. It was the second straight week that the Chargers held a region team without points and under 200 yards, while Friday’s shutout was the third of the season for a unit that seems to only get stronger as each game progresses. (October 15, 2012, Page 3B)
