Chargers shut out Lake Cormorant

BLOG — Oxford’s outstanding defense flexed its muscles yet again as the the No. 9 Chargers blanked the Lake Cormorant Gators 26-0 at Bobby Holcomb Field Friday night.

The Chargers improved to 7-0 overall with their second shutout of the year and to 3-0 in Region 1-5A. Oxford held the Gators to negative 11 yards in the first half and then recorded two impressive stands in the second half when the Gators reached the red zone.

Oxford led 19-0 at the half thanks to two field goals from Cody Mills and two touchdown passes from Parker Adamson. All of the points were scored in the second quarter. The first touchdown of the night came when Adamson hit running back Jarius Barnes coming across the formation on a short pass that he turned into a 50-yard touchdown.

Adamson then found wide receiver Joey Walden on a short pass that Walden was able to turn into a 32-yard touchdown reception just before the half.

The Chargers’ final touchdown of the night came on a reverse run from wide receiver Nick Brown in the third quarter.

Up next for the Chargers is a road game with the Hernando Tigers, who defeated the Chargers last year on Homecoming.
