BLOG — Oxford took a strong hold on its postseason future Friday night thanks to another outstanding defensive performance and overall team showing. The No. 7 Chargers slowed Hernando’s Wing T offense in the first half and then completely shut down the Tigers in the second half of a 31-0 win at Tiger Stadium.Oxford free safety Conrey Meagher garnered two second-half interceptions, while Oxford, which improved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in Region 1-5A play, continued to get major contributions from the special teams unit. Kicker Cody Mills got the Chargers on the board in the first quarter with a 40-yard field goal, while K.T. McCollin recovered a block punt in the fourth quarter to put the Chargers ahead 24-0 with an extra point from Mills.
Collin Le scored the Chargers first touchdown of the game on a 14-yard run. Oxford led the Tigers 10-0 at the half. Meagher scored the Chargers first offensive touchdown of the second half on a 4-yard run, while Nick Brown capped the scoring for the Chargers with a 50-yard reverse run for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
