Blue Devils tame Cougars

SPORTS BLOG: WATER VALLEY — A fast start by the Water Valley Blue Devils led to a 47-20 win against Region 2-3A foe South Pontotoc on Friday night at Bobby Clark Field.

The Blue Devils (7-1 overall, 2-0 in region play) put together four scoring drives in the first quarter to take a 24-6 lead over the Cougars.

WVHS running back Jarard Williams scored from 34 yards out for the first score of the night, before quarterback Jonathan Kent connected on passes of 38 and 20 yards to T.T. Person and Dillon Zinn on back-to-back possessions to take a 21-6 lead. Kicker Alex Robles added a 22-yard field goal to conclude the scoring of the opening quarter.

Williams found the end zone again in the second quarter on a 4-yard run, while K.J. Lee scored on a 9-yard run and Kent found L J Hawkins for a 25-yard touchdown pass to take a 44-13 lead at halftime.
