The start of Southeastern Conference play for Ole Miss begins Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium, home to the league’s best team in No. 1 Alabama. Two weeks after losing 66-31 to then No. 14 Texas, the Rebels have a chance to show the nation watching at home via ESPN that they have improved from that defeat and that they are more prepared to run the gauntlet against the nation’s best teams.
Playing on the road to start the SEC will be much different than last week for the Rebels (3-1 overall), who had no trouble dispatching Tulane 39-0 in the red and blue friendly Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze took measures to get his team ready for the noise by playing a recording of the Alabama fans at an ear-splitting level during practice.
How ready all the players are remains to be seen, but Freeze believes many of the players understand the gravity of the situation. (September 28, 2012, Page 6A)
