NEW ORLEANS — Ole Miss’ defenders had smiles on their faces after Saturday’s game with Tulane in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. A week after allowing 676 yards in a 66-31 loss to No. 12 Texas, the Rebel defense made a huge turnaround in a 39-0 win over the Green Wave.
Ole Miss (3-1 overall) held Tulane (0-3) to just 145 total yards on 71 plays, intercepted quarterback Devin Powell three times and finished with three sacks. The performance was not only the best of the season for a unit that has struggled with its consistency, but it was the first shutout of an opponent since the Rebels defeated Mississippi State 45-0 in the annual Egg Bowl to end the 2008 regular season.
