BLOG: CALHOUN CITY — A fast start and a balanced attack on offense helped lead the Water Valley Blue Devils to a 38-21 win over the Wildcats Friday night.Water Valley improved to 3-0 with its latest victory and avenged two losses to Calhoun City the past two seasons in the process. The Blue Devils never trailed in the contest as they jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first 14 minutes of the game. Calhoun City got as close as 21-14, but a field goal from Alex Robles and a 31-yard touchdown pass from E.J. Bounds in the final two minutes of the first half put the Blue Devils back ahead 31-14 at the break.
Calhoun City (1-2) never got any closer than 10 points the rest of the night as the Blue Devils ate up clock on offense with a balanced running attack and maintained field position by slowing the Wildcats on defense when needed.
E.J. Bounds was 4-for-4 for 53 yards passing in the first half for the Blue Devils, while Brandon Bounds led the rushing effort in the first 24 minutes with 64 yards on just five carries. Bounds had 45 yards on the ground in the first half on 10 carries and then 35 yards and a touchdown in the second half.
