Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze welcomed his team back to town Thursday afternoon to get ready for the start of summer drills. Members of the Lafayette County Cattleman’s Association, along with representatives from the Mississippi Cattleman’s Association, also welcomed the team back by feeding them a 16 ounce ribeye and all the fixings later in the evening.
Thanks to a program supported by the Mississippi Beef Council and corporate partners such as Mississippi Land Bank, area cattlemen were able to provide 175 well-seasoned steaks to players, coaches and support staff for the second straight season. Thursday’s food was made possible thanks in large part to the $1 collected from every sale of a cow in the state. In the attempt to educate and promote the public on how and what the some 17,000 beef producers do in the state, cattlemen try to give back through a cooking like Thursday. (August 3, 2012, Page 7A)
