Leave it to the Lafayette Commodores to win a dramatic defensive struggle in Eric Robertson’s head coaching debut. Sparked by an early interception returned for a touchdown by linebacker Chequille Williams, the Commodores scratched and clawed their way to an 8-3 win at William L. Buford Stadium on Friday. It was the 33rd straight win for LHS and the first for Robertson, who served the team the previous seven seasons as defensive coordinator.
While Williams’ 32-yard return a little less than two minutes into the contest was the biggest score of the game, two defensive stands in the second half ultimately ensured victory for LHS, which defeated Tupelo 40-11 last season. (August 20, 2012, Page 1B)
