The Ole Miss baseball team recently earned the verbal commitment of 2014 first baseman Michael Fitzsimmons.
“Officially committed to play baseball at the University of Mississippi #hottytoddy,” Fitzsimmons tweeted from his personal account (@Michael_Sean1) at approximately 9:20 p.m.
According to Perfect Game, Fitzsimmons, who plays at Memphis University School, grades out as an 8.5 out of 10 and is a “potential draft pick and/or excellent college prospect.”
The following is Perfect Game’s report on Fitzsimmons: “Big strong physical build. Right handed hitter, spread no stride hitting approach, throws front side open early, rotational swing, has good raw strength, loose long swing with bat speed and leverage, showed pull power, gets the barrel out well, power approach. Good footwork and agility around the first base bag, good hands, some arm strength from low 3/4’s release point. Good student.”
Fitzsimmons is ranked as the 307th-best player in the country, No. 6 in Tennessee and the 19th first baseman. (August 29, 2012, Page 7)
