‘Dores grind out win over Tupelo

BLOG — Eric Robertson’s tenure as Lafayette football coach got off to a successful start in the form of an 8-3 win over Tupelo Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium. The Commodores didn’t always look sharp on offense or defense, but they made the necessary plays to win the game when it counted. Lafayette’s defense bent some in the second half but bowed up on four straight passes late in the contest to allow the offense to run out the clock. Quarterback Brandon Mack and D.K. Buford produced yards if even if they weren’t able to end successful drives with scores.

Lafayette’s lone touchdown, and lone TD for either team Friday, was turned in with just over a minute gone in the contest when linebacker Chequille Williams returned an interception 32 yards for a score to put LHS up 6-0. LHS was able to increase its lead to 8-0 with a safety in the second quarter. After that, the Commodores held Tupelo off the scoreboard with the exception of a 50-yard field goal from Drew White in the third quarter.

Below are some thoughts after the game from Mack.
