Lafayette’s Commodores earned their 34th consecutive win Friday night with a
convincing 41-0 victory over the Greenwood Bulldogs at William L Buford Stadium. Junior running back DK Buford got the scoring started for Lafayette with a 5-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter. Senior Alec Michael found the end zone with a 1-yard run with under a minute left in the first
half to give the Commodores a 14-0 leading going into the break.
The second half started with a flurry with Buford returning the kickoff 89 yards to pay dirt. On the ensuing offensive play, Greenwood quarterback Kwadra Griggs threw an interception that was picked off by Joshua Barry and returned 18 yards into the end zone. The next drive Griggs threw another interception to Lafayette’s Brandon Mack, who managed to get inside Greenwood’s 10.
Two plays later Michael ran in a 4 yard touchdown giving Lafayette 20 points in just under 2 minutes into the second half. The final score came from Michael yet again but this time on the defensive side when he returned an interception by Griggs for a 70-yard touchdown.
Mack went 5-for-7 for 85 yards. Buford ran 17 times for 57 yards and one touchdown. Michael ran two times for 5 yards and two touchdowns. Griggs, who threw six touchdowns last week, went 17 of 33 yards for 97 yards and three
interceptions. (August 25, 2012)
