Blue Devils prepared for season opener

The weeks of working in the sweltering Mississippi heat will finally be put to the test Friday night.

During the course of the summer, the Blue Devils have worked hard to prepare for this opener, showing up at summer workouts, participating in 7-on-7s and hustling through intense practices.

Tomorrow, all of that work will be put to the test finally when the Blue Devils open their season at home against Independence.

Kickoff at Clark Field is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Wildcats and Blue Devils are far from strangers, although the Wildcats might like to forget the recent past.

During Brad Embry’s four seasons at Water Valley, the Blue Devils are 3-1 against Independence and have outscored the Wildcats 107-35.

While the Blue Devils routed Independence 42-0 last year on the road, and 33-6 the year before, Embry said he still expects his kids to come out focused. (August 16, 2012, Page 4B)
