Rebels stand alone for Lone Star signal caller

Optimism for the future of Ole Miss football continued to build Friday morning when Hugh Freeze picked up a verbal pledge from another standout offensive player. Dallas (Skyline High School) quarterback Devante Kincade chose the Rebels over several other impressive offers thanks in large part to relationship he built with Freeze, quarterbacks coach Dan Werner and his primary recruiter, Wesley McGriff.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Kincade, who was named MVP of the Dallas Regional Elite 11 combine this past spring, is rated as the 67th best overall player in the state of Texas by Rivals.com and a four-star signal caller by Scout.com. He is the quarterback of an outstanding Skyline team that went 14-1 last season and enters the 2012 season ranked No. 3 in MaxPreps’ preseason Top 25 poll.

Kincade, who had offers from Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Kansas State, among others, has yet to visit Oxford but said he chose Ole Miss due to the coaching staff and the feel he got about where Ole Miss was headed under Freeze. (July 9, 2012, Page 6)
