Immediately following June’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, Ole Miss signee Ty Hensley was quoted as saying he hoped to reach the Majors by age 21.
Looks like he’ll get that chance after all.
Late Thursday evening, the 30th overall selection agreed to a $1.2 million signing bonus with the Yankees, $400,000 less than his suggested signing bonus.
The Yankee’s first-round selection had until today at 4 to sign a professional contract.
Approximately 30 minutes after news broke of Hensley’s agreement, the 6-foot-5 right-hander tweeted “As the captain says… “Everything looks good in pinstripes!!!!”
Hensley followed that up with one more tweet: “With that being said… I’m going to be a New York Yankee… See you ASAP New York can’t wait to get there!!!!” (July 13, 2012, Page 6A)
