HOOVER, Ala. — To play cornerback effectively in the Southeastern Conference, a player has to be confident. Mississippi State senior Johnthan Banks definitely has confidence and he should based on his production since coming to Starkville from tiny East Webster High School.
In a league that routinely produces top-flight talent in the defensive backfield, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound Banks has shown he can play with the best wideouts from any team. Coming into the 2012 season, Banks has 12 interceptions to his credit and 32 career starts as either a safety or corner. He’s been durable, dependable and downright tough on opposing offenses.
Banks, who was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe award last year, is also the Bulldogs’ main leader and is outspoken about the team’s chances in the coming season. (July 19, 2012, Page 6)
