Yarbrough announces he’s a Halo

Ole Miss junior second baseman Alex Yarbrough announced Tuesday via the social networking site Twitter that he has signed with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

“Officially a member of the Angels organization! Can’t thank everyone at Ole Miss enough for the last 3 years,” he said.

While the organization has not officially announced the signing, the Angels’ fourth-round selection stands to make approximately $302,800 due to the new “pool amounts” according to Baseball America.

Yarbrough is the most-recent Rebel to sign. Ole Miss signees Gavin Cecchini (June 8) and Stryker Trahan (June 9) have already signed after being drafted in the first round by the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks respectively.

Junior left-hander Dylan Chavez, a 14th round selection, signed with the Boston Red Sox on June 10.

The lone Rebels who are eligible to play for Ole Miss in 2013 but have not yet signed are first-rounder Ty Hensley and 37th-rounder Jacob Waguespack.

Seniors R.J. Hively, Zach Kirksey and Matt Snyder have already signed with the Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees.

Last week on Twitter, outfielder Tanner Mathis said he opted to not sign with the Houston Astros and return to school for his senior year. (June 13, 2012, Page 7)
