Oxford’s older summer baseball team split a road doubleheader with South Panola on Tuesday night. The Tigers defeated Oxford 7-1 in the first game, while Oxford shut out the Tigers 3-0 in the second.
Oxford scored all three of its runs in the top of the fourth inning of the the second game. The Chargers finished with four hits overall, while South Panola was held to two. Tyler Jackson delivered a two-run double in the fourth that scored Steven Whitfield and Brooks Krouse. Noland Parham scored the first run of the inning when Krouse put down a successful squeeze bunt. Henry Webb and Pittman Phillips also had singles in the contest for the Chargers.
Phillips picked up the victory on the mound. He finished with two strikeouts and no walks in his five innings of work. Oxford’s older team returns to action in the Union University Tournament Friday against Jackson (Tenn.) Northside and Jackson Christian before closing out against Crockett County and Trinity Christian on Saturday. (June 13, 2012, Page 6)
