Erika Sisk’s second trip to the Metro Jackson area in less than a week produced another set of awards Wednesday night. Sisk was nominated and then won the Pop Star Award given annually by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.
The award, named after W.C. “Pop” Allen, a long time athletics director in the Jackson Public Schools, is given annually to the top athlete from the state in all sports. Sisk was one of the three finalists for the entire state and then selected as the top athlete overall.
Sisk is the first female athlete from Oxford High to win the Pop Star award. (May 17, 2012, Page 7A)
