HOOVER, Ala. — Asked how he felt the Rebels looked heading into Monday’s selection show, junior Alex Yarbrough replied as if Ole Miss’ inclusion into the field of 64 was a foregone conclusion, instead addressing the team’s offense as the team prepares to play in the NCAA Tournament.
One day after saying the Rebels’ resume was “pretty gosh darn good,” Rebel coach Mike Bianco also talked as if the Rebels would almost assuredly be in the tournament.
Despite the fact that LSU was left out of the tournament last year with a similar resume, most national college baseball writers appear to agree the Rebels are headed back to the tournament after a one-year hiatus.
Perfect Game’s Kendall Rogers said Wednesday he believed the Rebels would be a very week two-seed, or, at least, a three.
SEBaseball.com’s Mark Etheridge had Ole Miss as a No. 3 in Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday, while Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt told RebelGrove.com that his gut said the Rebels were in regardless of Thursday’s outcome and that they were more or less playing to remain a two-seed.
In the event that the Rebels see their name announced during Monday’s broadcast on ESPNU at 11 a.m., Bianco feels his team will be ready to go. (May 25, 2012, Page 6A)
