Nine Lady Commodores qualify for state meet

Nine Lafayette Lady Commodores qualified for the upcoming MHSAA Class 4A meet that will be held at Pearl Saturday. The Lady Commodores and Commodores competed in the 4A North Half meet hosted by Charleston this past Saturday, but no official results have been posted to know where both teams finished.

Mariah Buford led the Lady Commodores by finishing first in the 100 meter dash and first in the 400. Buford was also a member of the 4×200 relay team that finished second. Joining Buford on the team were Jada McIntosh, Briana Everett and Janae Westbrook.

Esmeralda Rodriguez had a good showing at the North Half meet by finishing second in the 3,200 and 1,600 runs. Peyton Hamann was first in the 800 to advance, while Rodriguez was third in the 800.  The 4×400 relay team of Westbrook, Hamann, Alisha Hickinbottom and Buford was first again.

Westbrook was third in the 300 hurdles, Ebony Sawyer was third in the shot put, Rachel Starnes was fourth in the 3,200, while Everett was fourth in the 400.
