NAHS rallies to force Game 3

Lafayette’s first loss in over a month has to be its last or else the MHSAA Class 4A baseball playoffs will come to an end for the Commodores.

A night after defeating New Albany 12-3 to win their 12th straight contest, the Commodores lost 7-5 to the Bulldogs on Saturday at W.V. Brewer Field, their first setback since March 31.

LHS (18-11 overall) now faces New Albany in a winner-takes-all Game 3 tonight at 7 at BNA Bank Park in New Albany. The winner of tonight’s matchup will face Division 2-4A foe Lewisburg in the 4A North Half title series that begins on Thursday at Lewisburg.

Errors and general miscues cost the Commodores in Game 2 with the Bulldogs (26-9). LHS committed three errors in the decisive fifth inning, one that saw the Bulldogs break a 2-2 contest and take the lead for good with two runs.

The Commodores then made another costly error in the top of the seventh inning, two batters before Riley Alef cleared the bases for New Albany with a three-run home run that put the Bulldogs ahead 7-3. (May 7, 2012, Page 8)
