BLOG: New Albany wasn’t able to hit its way past the Commodores tonight.
Aided by six Bulldog errors and a multitude of walks, the Commodores rallied from an early two-run deficit to defeat New Albany 12-3 in Game 1 of the MHSAA Class 4A quarterfinals series at the New Albany Sportsplex.
Trailing 3-1, Lafayette batted around in the fifth thanks to four New Albany errors and surged ahead 5-3.
In the seventh, three NAHS pitchers combined to issue six walks. The end result was another seven Lafayette runs and a 12-3 advantage for the visitors.
Senior right-hander Luke Stanley went the distance, allowing three runs on eight hits and four walks while also striking out five.
Freshman right-hander Eli Murphree is set to start Game 2 Saturday at Lafayette’s W.V. Brewer Field.
First pitch is scheduled for noon. (May 5, 2012)
