Sisk caps perfect senior year with POY award

Oxford’s Erika Sisk must have felt like she was in a whirlwind the past 30 days. It was exactly a month ago that the standout point guard led the Lady Chargers to their first Class 5A title in school history and the school’s first undefeated season at 33-0.

Moments after celebrating and holding up the coveted MHSAA gold ball with her teammates, Sisk found out she had been named to the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star game and a few days after that, she was tabbed to the All-State team.

In short, Sisk has been quite busy picking up all her accolades and basking in the glory that has all been a part of her fantastic senior season that started with her committing to Murray State in late July.

The fantastic season on the hardwood didn’t come as a shock to Sisk’s coach, Shayne Linzy, who said she has gotten progressively better the past three seasons he has been in charge of the program. As good as Sisk was last year when she won the 2011 EAGLE Player of the Year award, Linzy thought this year’s version was superior. (April 4, 2012, Page 1B)
