Rebels could shake up pitching rotation

Looking to shake things up after having inconsistent weekends at Georgia and Kentucky in consecutive weekends, the No. 22 Ole Miss Rebels could stray from their normal rotation this weekend when the No. 17 Arkansas Razorbacks come to town for the three-game set beginning tonight.

Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco confirmed prior to the team’s practice on Thursday that following sophomore right-hander Bobby Wahl (5-0, 2.13 ERA) tonight will be fellow sophomore right-hander Mike Mayers (3-2, 4.15) on Saturday and a to-be-determined pitcher on Sunday instead of senior right-hander R.J. Hively (3-3, 3.35).

Bianco said Hively is healthy and the move has more to do with shoring up the bullpen.

Hively will be made available out of the bullpen for both Friday and Saturday’s game, and should he not pitch, he’ll make his normal weekend start.

If he does see action earlier than normal, Bianco said the Rebels (25-12 overall, 7-8 Southeastern Conference) make a decision at that time. (April 20, 2012, Page 6A)
