Drew Tyler, the coach of the Oxford Chargers basketball team, always has positive things to say about his top player each season.
Every single one of his top players have incredible physical ability and basketball skills. Most have good to great intangibles that make them more valuable to a team, while a few others have had the whole package.
This year, Tyler’s top player may go down as his most beloved and most respected among other members of the local community.
Senior Justin Fondren, who is also this year’s Oxford EAGLE Player of the Year, is a unique basketball player.
Not only is he the leader on the hardwood, Fondren sits at the top of the national high jump list in prep track. He is a member of the marching band during the fall, he is a strong student in the classroom and he is a caring member of the community when he is away from OHS.
As Tyler may have said it best, there are many who would agree that Fondren is truly a top player, student and role model. (April 5, 2012, Page 1B)
