Mike Bianco’s gamble appears to have paid off.
Thursday, Ole Miss’ skipper made it known publicly that usual weekend starter R.J. Hively would be moved to the pen in the hopes of limiting the Rebels’ late-inning letdowns.
Saturday, Bianco’s change was put to work and immediately paid dividends.
After starter Mike Mayers shined for 6.1 scoreless innings, Bianco turned the game over to Hively.
With two on and one out, Hively got Razorback outfielder Derrick Bleeker to ground into a double play on the first pitch he threw. Hively allowed a leadoff walk in the eighth, but retired the next six Razorbacks in order to earn his first save. (April 23, 2012, Page 1B)
