Lafayette boys powerlifting coach Dennis Robbins will help lead five Commodores into the MHSAA Class 4A state meet Saturday in Jackson’s Mississippi Coliseum. The goal, Robbins said, is for all five to finish third or better at the meet.
It seems unlikely that the Commodores have enough lifters to win a state title, but Robbins has been pleased with how his team has competed this year.
Robbins was also excited about how John Mills (114-pound division) and Mario Toles (275) would fare saying both could end up with individual state titles after all three lifts are recorded. Mills, Toles and D.Q. Reynolds, who will compete in the super heavyweight division, have all been to the state meet, a plus from Robbins’ perspective. Rounding out the lifters who will travel in the attempt to lift LHS to a 4A title, the school’s second in three years, will be Cortez Coleman (242) and Kalen Coleman (198). (April 13, 2012, Page 7A)
