Lafayette earns No. 2 seed in 4A playoffs

A 6-1 win over Senatobia secured a spot in the upcoming Class 4A playoffs for the Lafayette Commodores Thursday evening. LHS improved to 4-1 in the Division 2-4A standings with the win, while it improved the overall record to 7-4. Jacob Roberts defeated Perry Lafayette 6-0, 6-2 in boys singles, while Mallory Davis topped Macey Magee 6-0, 6-0 in girls singles, Davis’ second straight win without yielding a point.
The No. 1 boys doubles team of Hunter Knight and Barron Pruitt blanked Tyler Newman and Max Bernall 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Garrett Reed and Brett Bowen beat James Norris and Billy Roberts 6-2, 6-4. At No. 1 girls doubles, Lauren Cullen and Ashley Smith teammed up to beat Reason Pepper and Randi Robinson 6-0, 6-2, while Kathryn Owen and Brittany Mann beat Mary Cossar and Emily Newman 6-0, 6-2. Senatobia’s mixed doubles team of Weldon Mens and Hannah Switzer topped Nathan Hollis and Abbey Pate 6-1, 6-1. Lafayette returns to action Monday at home agaisnt Mooreville for Senior Day.
