Lafayette blanks Mooreville in tennis

Lafayette’s final home match of the regular season produced a 7-0 win over Mooreville Monday at the courts behind Oxford-University Stadium.  In singles play, Lafayette’s Jacob Roberts defeated Dylan Lewis 6-2, 6-3, while Mallory Davis handled Mooreville’s Megan Rowland 6-1, 6-2.

Lafayette’s No. 1 boys doubles team of Barron Pruitt and Hunter Knight defeated Kelton Kingsley and Robert Jones 6-4, 6-1, while the No. 2 boys doubles team of Garrett Reed and Brett Bowen outlasted Jay West and Zach Shumpert 6-1, 3-6, (10-8).

The No. 1 girls doubles team of Lauren Cullen and Ashley Smith beat Morgan Tharp and Kacey Byrd 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 girls doubles team of Kathryn Owen and Hayley Hamann defeated Shelby Miller and Bailey Gillentine 7-6 (7-0), 6-0.

Lafayette’s mixed doubles team of Brittany Mann and Nathan Hollis rounded out the scoring with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Tiana Allen and James Bracker 6-3, 6-0.

In an extra match, Tanner Odom and Abbey Pate defeated Myriam Sandra and Caleb Sandra 6-1, 6-1.

Lafayette returns to action Thursday against Oxford at Avent Park. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. (April 10, 2012, Page 8)
