Lafayette finished fourth out of 27 teams in Saturday’s Class II state meet. Charleston won the overall title followed by South Pike.
Five of the eight Lady Commodores who competed in the meet earned medals. Cate Clay won the 97-pound weight class, while Meg Norphlet won the 105 class. Sparkle Duncan finished second in the 198 class and set the state record with a 165-pound bench press. Toinella Marion was third in the 132 class, Ashley Carter was third in the 220 division. Kelsey Kesler was fifth in the 181 class, San Hairston was fifth in the 123 class, while Meghan Sharp was sixth in the 165 class. “We didn’t finish where we wanted but I’m honored and blessed to work with a team of fierce competitors. Everyone finished with more weight than at North Half and that’s all I can ask for. It was a good year and looking forward to a better next year.” (April 16, 2012, Page 9)
