Former Water Valley coach headed to Hall of Fame

Former Water Valley head boys basketball and track coach Murray Dixon will be inducted into the Mississippi Valley State Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday in Itta Bena. Dixon, who was also an assistant football coach at WVHS, played along the offensive and defensive lines at MVSU from 1961-1965. He was voted All SWAC in 1963 and 1964 and was also a team captain. Dixon served as an assistant principal, coach and science teacher from 1968-2007.

He was also the supervisor of playground activities for the Oxford Park Commission from 1975-1993 as well as a supervisor and recreational specialist at the OPC’s activity center from 1982-1989.

Dixon is one of 13 former athletes who are being inducted into the Hall of Fame. (April 12, 2012, Page 8)
