A 7-0 shutout of North Pontotoc Monday night advanced the Lafayette Commodores to a spot in the upcoming Class 4A playoffs.
The victory was the second straight shutout for the Commodores, who beat Marshall Academy 12-0 on Saturday. LHS (13-10 overall) broke the game open with four runs in the top of the third inning. Eli Murphree led the Commodores at the plate with three hits and also drove in a run. Tyler Mize had two hits, scored a run and drove in a run. Luke Stanley, Michael Hudgins, Dylan Gossett, Jake McPhail and Hunter Bishop also had an RBI. Murphree earned the complete-game win for the Commodores. He finished with four strikeouts against two walks and six hits allowed. LHS will close out the regular season Wednesday at home against North Pontotoc. First pitch is set for 2:30.
