Oxford’s 4-3 loss to West Point on Wednesday evening would have cost them them the No. 2 seed in the Class 5A playoffs, however Saltillo’s loss to New Hope on Wednesday allowed the Chargers to secure the No. 2 seed due to two wins over the Tigers during the Division 2-5A season.
The Chargers finished the year 4-5 in the division and enter the playoffs with a 15-10 mark overall. Oxford used four pitchers in the loss to the Green Wave but coach Chris Baughman has Steven Whitfield and Hunter Roth available to start the team’s best-of-three series against Yazoo City.
