Oxford’s trip to New Hope Monday produced two wins over the Trojans in tennis action. The two 7-0 wins not only improved the Chargers to 13-1 overall, but the victories also wrapped up another regular season division title for the Chargers, who finished 6-0 against West Point, Saltillo and New Hope combined.
Oxford posted three 6-0, 6-0 wins in the first match and four in the second match between the two schools.
Will Swindoll defeated David Newton 6-0, 6-0 in boys singles the first match, while Quinn Elliott blanked Newton 6-0, 6-0 in the second match. Oxford’s Kara Rose played in boys girls singles matches and she won both 6-0, 6-0.
The No. 1 boys doubles team of Baxter Elliott and Robert Nance beat Kyle Martin and Ricky Lee 6-1, 6-0 in the first match and 6-0, 6-1 the second meeting. Elliott and Matt Forgette won the No. 2 boys doubles match against Hunter Quinn and Steely Wilson 6-0, 6-0 the first meeting, while Swindoll joined Forgette in the second match to beat Quinn and Wilson 6-1, 6-0.
Sarah Nash and Embrey Inman played both matches at No. 1 girls doubles.
The tandem defeated Natalie Dunser and Mary Surrh both times. The first score was 6-2, 6-2, while the second match went 6-1, 6-0.
Oxford’s Eliza Williams and Madison Cobb served as the No. 2 girls doubles team. They defeated Morgan Franks and Dallas Dale 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0.
The mixed doubles team for Oxford in both matches consisted of Cari Hansen and Arlis Williams.
The duo defeated Matthew Ferguson and Leigh Atkins 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0.
Oxford returns to action Thursday at Avent Park against Lafayette. The match begins at 4 p.m. (April 10, 2012, Page 8)
