Led by a first-place finish from Clifton Smith in the super heavyweight division, the Oxford Chargers finished a school-best third place in Saturday’s Class 5A state meet.
Oxford finished with 23 points, while Ridgeland won the title with 55. Pearl was second with 42. Smith totaled 1,380 pounds to win the title, a figure that was 20 pounds more than the second-place finisher. Deun Coleman was second in the 165 class, while Challen Griffin was second in the 242 division. Joel Forrester was third 308 class, Kelvin Lamar was fourth in the 275 division, William Paine was fifth in the 220 division, while Elisha Brassell was fifth in the 132 class. (April 16, 2012, Page 9)
