The most complete effort in a while, if not the entire season, came Tuesday afternoon at home for the Oxford tennis team. The Chargers beat Tupelo 7-0 in a match coach Louis Nash was raving about a few hours later. “I’m so pleased and happy for this group,” Nash said. Oxford’s victories were provided by Baxter Elliott at boys singles and Ann Marie Edlin at girls singles. Elliott rallied to defeat Aaron Hildenbrand 2-6, 6-4 (10-6), while Edlin topped Casey Marshall 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). The No. 1 boys doubles team of Robert Nance and Andrew Mullen defeated Will Otis and Andrew Hildenbrand 6-4, 7-5, while the No. 2 boys doubles team of Quinn Elliott and Will Swindoll 6-2, 6-0. The No. 1 girls doubles team of Kara Rose and Embrey Inman topped Ashley Williams and Sarah Hollingsworth 6-2, 6-4, while the No. 2 team of Sarah Nash and McClellan Davis grinded out a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 win over Megan Ware and Briley Chrisman. The final victory for Oxford came from Cari Hansen and Judson Watson in mixed doubles when they defeated Kat Stratton and Austin Pillow 6-2, 7-5. Oxford (14-1 overall) returns to the courts Thursday against Lafayette at Avent Park. Action begins at 4 p.m. (April 11, 2012, Page 9)
