Avent’s Park was surrounded by spectators Thursday afternoon as Lafayette and Oxford closed out their regular seasons with the annual tennis meeting between the two schools.
With both squads already a part of the Class 4A (LHS) and 5A (OHS) playoffs, Thursday’s match was about different things for each coach.
The Chargers defeated the Commodores 5-2 but the two wins were a marked improvement for Debbie Swindoll’s Commodores, who lost 7-0 to OHS last year.
Apart from the two wins, the No. 1 boys doubles match had to be decided with a tiebreaker, while two other doubles matches were also competitive. (April 13, 2012, Page 7A)
