Big inning leads McComb past Oxford

A six-run seventh inning helped lift the McComb Lady Tigers to a 10-2 win over the Oxford Lady Chargers in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs Thursday night at OHS. McComb (12-8 overall) led OHS 4-2 heading into the frame, but a grand slam by the Lady Tigers gave them a cushion that Oxford couldn’t overcome. The Lady Chargers (5-15) fell behind 2-0 in the first but scored single runs in the third and fourth to tie the contest at 2-2. McComb broke the tie for good in the top of the fifth with two runs.
The Lady Chargers finished the game with five hits but didn’t get enough hits with runners on base, OHS coach Lauren Hill said. Four errors committed by the Lady Chargers also hurt during a contest Hill felt good about until the seventh. McComb finished with seven hits overall.
Aulysha Booker led the Lady Chargers with two hits, including a double, and drove in one of the two runs. Mallory Tucker, Kyla Malone and Nikki Grilliette each had a single in the loss.
