NEW ORLEANS — In an arena where NBA stars shine on a regular basis, Ole Miss junior guard Nick Williams performed like a professional standout for the Rebels Thursday night.
Williams led the resurgent Rebels to a 68-54 win over Auburn in the first round of the 2012 Southeastern Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament by scoring a career-high 22 points. Williams, who came in averaging just over 10 points a game, was sensational shooting the ball from the field. He made mid-range jumpers — the shots he feels most comfortable taking and making — as well as four 3-pointers on eight attempts.
Williams proved to be the difference on offense for the No. 7 seeded Rebels, who have now won four straight games and advanced to play No. 2 Tennessee tonight in the New Orleans Arena. (March 9, 2012, Page 6A)
