Rebels hoping to continue streak

NEW ORLEANS — Ole Miss men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy will get a chance to see just how deep his team can go in the first game of the Southeastern Conference Tournament tonight.

The Rebels (18-12 overall) take on Auburn (15-15) in the opener set for 6:30 and they will do it without freshman guard Jelan Kendrick in the lineup.

Kendrick, who was held out of the regular season finale against Alabama this past Saturday, did not travel with the team to New Orleans after meeting with Kennedy on Monday. Kendrick was seen outside C.M. “Tad” Smith Coliseum prior to the start of the game with the Crimson Tide before returning to the bench area after the contest started.

Kennedy didn’t elaborate on Kendrick’s status Wednesday during a pre-tournament press conference, but did say the freshman not being with the team spoke volumes. (March 8, 2012, Page 6)
