Patience pays off for Knight

Austin Knight didn’t pick the circumstance in which he made his first collegiate start, but he did make the most of his chances this weekend behind the plate for Ole Miss.

Knight was a late addition to the incoming freshman class and finished the fall as the fourth catcher on the roster.

This spring, Knight began his ascent on the depth chart and on Friday, Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco called upon the freshman to replace starter Will Allen, who fractured the pinky finger on his throwing hand.

Knight responded immediately, throwing out an attempted base stealer Friday night after four successfully stole bases on Allen. (March 5, 2012, Page 8A)
