Oxford blanks West Point in tennis

Oxford’s trip to West Point turned out to be a success as the Chargers posted a 7-0 win Tuesday afternoon. The Chargers only lost eight points in the match that saw three matches decided by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

At boys singles, Robert Nance beat Nate Prather 6-0, 6-0, while in girls singles, Sarah Nash topped Janyelle Foye 6-0, 6-1. At No. 1 boys doubles, Quinn Elliott and Andrew Mullen beat Carson Miller and Drew Shirley 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 boys doubles, Will Swindoll and Judson Watson topped Cody Denise and Dusty Schwartz 6-1, 6-1. The No. 1 girls doubles team of Ann Marie Edlin and Cari Hansen blanked Mileka Hammond and Chelsea Ricks 6-0, 6-0, while the No. 2 team of Embrey Inman and McClellan Davis knocked off Erecka Robinson and Kiera Kyles 6-0, 6-0. Kara Rose and Baxter Elliott defeated Kameron Calvert and Zane Crosswhite 6-1, 6-3 in mixed doubles.

Oxford (4-0 overall, 2-0 in Division 2-5A) will return to action Thursday at home against New Hope at 4 p.m. (March 21, 2012, Page 6)
