Ole Miss men’s basketball coach Andy Kennedy was confident his team was going to be playing again this week following its exit in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Saturday.
While a strong finish to the season didn’t propel the Rebels to the NCAA Tournament, they did receive a bid to the National Invitation Tournament on Sunday night. Ole Miss is a No. 2 seed in the 2012 field that includes 32 total teams and three others from the SEC in Mississippi State, LSU and Tennessee.
Ole Miss (20-13 overall) will host No. 7 seed Illinois State (20-13) in the first round Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. It will be the fifth time in six years the Rebels have been selected to the NIT under Kennedy, who led the team to two NIT Final Fours in 2008 and 2010. (March 12, 2012, Page 1B)
